HVAC | MY Omaha

MY Omaha, also known as project Maia, is the first delivery in Heesen’s newly designed 50 metre Steel Class. The stunning exterior design by Clifford Denn is inspired by contemporary and classic car design. Reymond Langton Design – who successfully created the award-winning interior of Heesen’s Ann G – was appointed to design the interiors for Omaha. She has accommodation for 10 guests in 5 staterooms, master suite on the main deck forward, four guest suites, 3 doubles and one twin on the lower deck. Crew accommodation is for 10 in 5 cabins.

The project was sold in December 2017 and delivered to her American owner in June 2018. The owner and his team have been working with the designers and the shipyard engineers to tailor the yacht to their taste and lifestyle, creating a yacht that will take them around the world in comfort and style.

Cruising in comfort

In order to ensure a comfortable indoor climate around the world, Heinen & Hopman was selected to supply the HVAC system. The scope consisted of the delivery, engineering, installation and commissioning of the air conditioning, mechanical ventilation, fresh air system, sanitary treatment system, grey/black water system, hot/cold water supply and the wheelhouse demisting system.

Air conditioning system

A seawater-cooled chiller provides 100% of the required cooling capacity. On this custom-built chiller the following features have been built in, which result in a high-quality and operation friendly chiller:

  • crank case heater, protection to avoid quick start of cold compressors
  • chilled water pump selector to select pump I or II
  • water flow protection
  • temperature control and protection
  • pressure control and protection
  • hour counters
  • sequence switch cooling
  • frequency control on the compressors
  • reduced power consumption control
  • alarm

Design conditions

The air conditioning system was based on the following design conditions:

Outside-Inside Summer

Outside: 35°C/90% RH or 40°C/65% RH
Inside: 23°C/50% RH

Outside-Inside Winter

Outside: 0°C
