HVAC | MY Soprano
Soprano is a custom built motor yacht by Hakvoort Shipyard in Monnickendam, The Netherlands. The yacht has a classical and elegant overall feel due to the traditional exterior design and a classic nautical interior. The superyacht was sold to the owners in October 2014 by Ocean Independence, who also provided project management services and will now offer the yacht for charter.
Soprano provides accommodation for 10 guests. The owner’s suite is located on the main deck, with a king-size bed and a bathroom. Guests are welcomed on the lower deck with en-suite staterooms comprising two double guest cabins and a VIP-room. The yacht can accommodate up to six crew members as well to ensure a relaxed and comfortable experience when it is used for chartering.
HVAC by Heinen & Hopman
To ensure passengers and crew the most comfortable indoor climate, Heinen & Hopman was selected to supply the air conditioning, ventilation and a fresh air system.
Engine room cooling
The heat load from the engine room is removed by an internal cooling system. This custom-built system consists of two sea water cooled cooling units, which are connected to a dedicated seawater pump. The benefits of engine room cooling compared with traditional systems are:
- Cleaner engine room
- Longer operative life of equipment
- Reduced power consumption for ER ventilation at partial load
- More interior space, due to the absence of large ventilation funnels
- Reduced noise levels in harbour and anchor conditions
The Dometic 5 stage chiller is modified with frequency drives to soft start the compressors and eliminate high start currents.
The following design maximum conditions were specified and designed for this project:
Outside: 35°C/85% RH
Inside: 22°C/55% RH
Outside: 0°C/90% RH
Inside: 21°C/35% RH
