Heinen & Hopman to supply energy-efficient HVAC&R system for Damen/Windcat new MP-ASV series

Heinen & Hopman will supply a high-tech, energy-efficient HVAC&R system for Damen/Windcat new Multi-Purpose Accommodation Support Vessel (MP-ASV) series. Designed for offshore operations in the energy sector, the MP-ASV series are strongly focused on fuel-efficient operations and comfortable, high-quality accommodation.

An important element of the HVAC&R solution is the use of three heat pumps to provide heating and cooling throughout the vessel. By eliminating the need for a conventional oil-fired boiler, the system significantly reduces direct CO₂ emissions from the HVAC&R system. The three heat pumps are a critical part of the DP2 system, when one heat pump fails, the vessel can continue to operate on DP2 relying on the other two heat pumps.

The HVAC&R system consists of seven air handling units equipped with enthalpy rotors to maximize energy recovery. By recovering both thermal energy and moisture from the exhaust air, the system minimizes the energy required to maintain a comfortable indoor climate on board.

In collaboration with our partner Van Gooi, Heinen & Hopman will integrate the various systems into one seamless solution. A smart control system provides efficient and accurate control of the complete HVAC&R installation, ensuring that energy is used only where and when it is needed.

The combination of heat pump technology, energy recovery and smart controls make the HVAC&R installation an important part of the vessel’s overall energy-efficient and DP-2 design. With this HVAC&R installation, Heinen & Hopman is proud to contribute to a vessel design that prioritizes both energy-efficiencies and operational performance.
